Men's Lacrosse Records Victory Over Mercer, 14-5

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Colin McGeehin (Newtown Square, Pa.) netted five goals, while sophomore James Kennedy (Summit, N.J.) recorded two goals and two assists for four points as the Holy Cross men's lacrosse team defeated Mercer, 14-5, at Holy Cross Field in non-conference action. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-11 overall, while the Bears conclude their first season 1-12 overall.

Junior Andrew Morici (Manhasset, N.Y.) tallied two goals, while sophomore Myles Gillespie (Rye, N.Y.) recorded one goal and one assist for two points. Junior David Henry (Davidsonville, Md.) scored his first collegiate goal, while junior Nick Rabiecki (Maplewood, N.J.), freshman John Daugherty (Stafford, Va.) and freshman Matt Smith (North Bethesda, Md.) also each recorded one goal. Senior Eamon Troy (Summit, N.J.), junior Matt Boylan (Kings Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Matt Ward (Massapequa, N.Y.) each tallied one assist. The assist by Troy was his first collegiate point. Senior Douglas Broussard (Floral Park, N.Y.) led the team with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Mercer was led by Cole Branch who scored four goals.

The Crusaders scored the only two goals of the first quarter as McGeehin and Smith found the back of the net. Smith's goal was off a pass by Boylan. Holy Cross then extended its lead to 5-0 when it scored the first three goals of the second quarter. McGeehin netted two straight as his second was off a pass from Ward. Then Henry found the back of the net off a pass by Troy. Henry's goal was on the man-down. After John Avent made it a 5-1 game, Gillespie tallied the last goal of the second quarter as the Crusaders took a 6-1 lead to the half.

The Crusaders dominated the third quarter outscoring Mercer by a 6-0 margin to increase their lead to 12-1. Kennedy recorded two goals and two assists in the quarter, while Morici netted two goals and McGeehin and Rabiecki each scored one. After Cole netted the first goal of the fourth quarter, Daugherty scored a man-down goal and McGeehin found the back of the net off a pass from Gillespie. Branch then recorded the last three goals of the contest for the 14-5 final score.

Senior goalie Brandon DeLisio (Woodstock, N.Y.) made his first collegiate start and played all 60:00 with five saves as he also earned his first collegiate victory. Justin Bateman made 13 saves as he allowed 14 goals in 55:10 and Logan Smith made one save in 4:50. The Crusaders outshot the Bears, 47-17, and also earned 50 ground balls as Mercer recorded 26.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 23, versus Army on Holy Cross Field at 12:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
