Junior pitcher Kelly NelsonĀ has been named the Crusader of the Week, for competition from March 22-28. Nelson recorded 20 strikeouts over 12 innings of work to help Holy Cross softball to a 1-1 record in a pair of games last week.
During the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Colgate, Nelson threw an eight-inning, complete game shutout where she recorded 15 strikeouts to lead the Crusaders to a 2-0 victory in extra innings. In the second game, she added four more innings of work, striking out five. The 15 strikeouts in the first game are the most in a single game all season throughout the Patriot League.
On the season, Nelson has recorded a 1.13 ERA over 31 innings of work. Her 50 strikeouts lead the team and are second in the Patriot League. In her career, Nelson has 300 strikeouts and is just the third Crusader in program history to reach the milestone.
The Crusaders return to action this Wednesday, March 31 against Maine for the team's home opener. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
