WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross volleyball junior middle blocker
Lacey Murphy has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Tuesday following a collection of votes by the leagues head coaches.
This is the first weekly honor in Murphy's collegiate career, and she becomes the fifth different student-athlete in program history to earn top defensive player honors.
Murphy started and played in all four matches for the Crusaders this past week helping lead them to a 3-1 record. Named to the 21st Friar Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team (Sept. 11-12), the junior hit .347 with 23 kills (1.53 K/S), 21 total blocks (1.40 B/S), nine digs, two aces and two assists. She led the Patriot League in total blocks, while ranking third in blocks per set and fifth in hitting percentage for the week ending Sept. 13.
She hit .273 with four kills, six total blocks and an ace in the 3-1 win over Marist (Sept. 8). In the first game of the Friar Volleyball Classic, Murphy had three kills and six total blocks in a 3-1 win over Stonehill (Sept. 11). She then tallied a career-high 13 kills hitting .600 with six blocks and three digs in the 3-1 win over Manhattan (Sept. 12). Murphy added three kills and three blocks in the Friar Volleyball Classic Championship Match at Providence (Sept. 12).
On the season, Murphy ranks fourth in the Patriot League in total blocks (36) and fifth in blocks per set (1.06). She has six or more blocks four times in 2026 and 125 total blocks in her collegiate career. Murphy needs 81 more blocks to climb into a tie for 10th place on the program's all-time list.
Holy Cross (5-6) have won three of their last four matches and will travel to battle Stonehill (3-8) on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
