WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore outside hitter
KK Green contributed a team-high 10 kills as the Holy Cross volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Patriot League foe Navy Saturday in the Hart Center Arena.
Green was one dig shy of a double-double pacing the team with nine digs and a block assist for the Crusaders (6-8, 0-2 PL). Junior middle blocker
Lacey Murphy hit .636 with seven kills and three total blocks. Navy (4-6, 2-0 PL) was led by Farrah Eike's 11 kills.
SET SCORES:
Midshipmen 3, Crusaders 0 (16-25, 20-25, 16-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore middle blocker Kyla Harris went but to solo block an attack attempt to tie the score 5-5. Navy led then another block, this time by Lacey Murphy and freshman right side Sarahya College put the Crusaders behind 12-10. A 9-1 Navy scoring stretch put them in the lead by 10, 21-11 Back-to-back Green kills trimmed the deficit to eight before Navy captured the set.
- Freshman right side Keira Mullen converted an attack attempt from the pin to give the Crusaders the early 6-4 lead in the second set. Navy posted a 7-1 scoring stretch to jump in the lead at 11-7. A Mullen kill with blocks from sophomore outside hitter Emma Sorensen and Lacey Murphy dropped the deficit to a pair, 14-12. The Crusaders remained behind by two, until three straight Midshipmen markers upped the lead to five, 20-15. Leading by three, the guests produced the final two points to take a 2-0 match lead.
- Green kept Holy Cross trailing by two, 7-5. Navy's advantage expanded to five, 14-9 following a block. A 7-1 run for the Midshipmen with three straight aces improved their edge to 21-13 before they won the match.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Navy hit a season-high .302 in the match.
- The Midshipmen out served the Crusaders 8-1 in aces.
- College (five total blocks) has 5+ total blocks in three of the last four games.
- Mullen led the Crusaders in assists for the second straight game.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders continue their four game home swing next Saturday, Sept. 26 against Colgate (6-5, 1-1 PL)
- First serve is slated for 4 p.m. in the Hart Center Arena.
