Holy Cross Athletics

NORTH EASTON, Mass. – Led by junior middle blocker Lacey Murphy and sophomore outside hitter KK Green the Holy Cross volleyball team swept non-conference opponent Stonehill 3-0 Tuesday evening in Merkert Gymnasium.

With the win, the Crusaders (6-6) enter Patriot League action with a .500 or better winning percentage for the first time since 2013 (5-5, .500). It was their fourth win over their last five matches. The Skyhawks move to 3-9 with the loss.

Murphy, who was announced as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon established a new career-best with 12 total blocks. Her 12 blocks were a NCAA single-game high in a three set match in 2026. Green powered the offense with a team-high 13 kills and hit a whopping .588 from the outside.

SET SCORES:
Crusaders 3, Skyhawks 0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-18)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Back-to-back blocks on the right side from Lacey Murphy and freshman right side Sarahya College put the Crusaders in the lead 2-1 early. The Skyhawks jumped ahead 6-4 following a kill. Stonehill led 11-9 until the Crusaders scored eight straight points as freshman setter/right side Keira Mullen started the stretch with a skip set kill while Lacey Murphy had three blocks during the stretch to lead 17-11. Stonehill trimmed the deficit to four 20-16, Holy Cross won the first set following a junior defensive specialist Alana Whitwell ace.
• Lacey Murphy and College combined for another block as the Crusaders led 2-0. The Skyhawks produced four straight to double up the Crusaders 4-2. Down 7-4, Holy Cross outscored their opponents 18-3 across the next few stages of the set as Green led the way with a trio of kills during that stretch to lead 22-10 as College and Lacey Murphy combined for another block. The Crusaders won the set 25-13.
• Kills from Mullen and Green moved the Crusaders in front 9-7 in the third set. A pair of Stonehill miscues with a sophomore middle blocker Kyla Harris kill from the middle expanded the Crusader advantage to four, 17-13. The Skyhawks pulled within a pair 18-16, but Holy Cross outscored them 7-2 to end the match as Lacey Murphy and College blocked the final attack attempt.

INSIDE THE BOX:

• Murphy has 6+ blocks in five games this year and five times over the last seven matches.
• Harris hit a season-best .667 with a year-high six kills in the match.
• Mullen paced the Holy Cross setters with nine assists.
• The Crusaders recorded 13 blocks to the Skyhawks two.

UP NEXT:

• The Crusaders open Patriot League play with 2025 Tournament Champion American (5-4) on Friday, Sept. 18.
• First serve is slated for 6 p.m. in the Hart Center Arena.
