Cushing, Scalise receive Patriot League Weekly honors

WORCESTER, Mass.- Holy Cross women's soccer seniors Abby Cushing and Sofia Scalise both received weekly honors from the Patriot League on Monday, August 31. Cushing was named Forward of the Week, while Scalise earned Defender of the Week honors for competition from Aug. 24-30.

Cushing picked up her first career Patriot League weekly award after tallying a goal and an assist in the Crusaders 2-0 victory at Marist on Thursday, Aug. 27. The senior got Holy Cross on the board early, taking advantage of an out-of-position Marist goalkeeper in the eighth minute. Cushing later assisted senior defender Adi Botet on her first career goal in the 17th minute, helping propel the Crusaders to their third straight victory and their best start to a season since 2014.

Scalise receives league recognition after posting an assist and helping secure a clean sheet against the Red Foxes. The Southington, Conn. native assisted Cushing on her eighth-minute goal Thursday and turned in a stellar defensive performance, helping propel the Crusaders to their second straight clean-sheet victory.
