Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer downs Marist for third-straight victory

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Seniors Abby Cushing and Adi Botet each scored within the first 17 minutes of Thursday evening's contest, while junior goalkeeper Antriana Mila recorded her second straight clean sheet to lead the Holy Cross women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Marist at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on Aug. 23. The Crusaders improve to 3-1-1 while the Red Foxes fall to 0-4-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Cushing capitalized on an out-of-position Marist goalkeeper, finding the back of the net eight minutes into the contest.
  • Botet redirected a wide shot attempt from junior forward Ava Graham into the top of the net for her first career goal, extending the Crusaders' lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute.
  • Holy Cross excelled in all facets in the first half, leading 13-2 in shots, 4-1 in shots on goal and 7-1 in corners.
  • Mila made five saves to record her second consecutive clean sheet.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 
  • At 3-1-1, Holy Cross is off to its best start to a season since 2014, when the Crusaders opened the year 6-0.
  • Holy Cross ties its longest win streak from a season ago with its third straight win this evening.
  • The Crusaders improved to 6-2-1 all-time against Marist, winning their last three meetings against the Red Foxes.
  • Holy Cross held a dominant 18-7 edge in shots against Marist and a 10-1 advantage on corners.
  • The Crusaders led the Red Foxes 5-2 in saves.
  • Cushing tallied her second goal of the season and the fifth of her career.
  • Botet recorded her first career goal after 31 prior collegiate matches.
