Beckstein’s free kick propels women’s soccer to fourth straight win

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.- Junior goalkeeper Antriana Mila recorded her third straight clean sheet, while senior defender Karenna Beckstein broke the scoreless deadlock with a free kick in the 67th minute to lead the Holy Cross women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Central Connecticut on Thursday, Sept. 3 at CCSU Soccer Field. The Crusaders win their fourth straight game to improve to 4-1-1 while the Blue Devils fall to 2-4-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite good offensive looks from both sides, Holy Cross and Central Connecticut would end the first half scoreless.
  • Beckstein found the top-right corner with a free kick in the 67th minute, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
  • Mila recorded three saves en route to her third consecutive clean sheet.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 
  • At 4-1-1, Holy Cross is off to its best start since 2014, when the Crusaders opened the season 6-0. The four-game winning streak is also the program's first since that season.
  • The Crusaders improved to 6-3-2 all-time against Central Connecticut, winning their last two meetings against the Blue Devils.
  • Holy Cross held a 16-10 edge in shots against CCSU and a 6-1 advantage on corners.
  • CCSU led 10-3 in saves.
  • Beckstein tallied her first goal of the season and the sixth of her career.
  • Mila posts her third straight clean sheet
