No. 2 Women’s basketball faces No. 3 Army in PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Semifinals on Thursday

OPENING TIP:
  • The No. 2 Holy Cross women's basketball team will host No. 3 Army West Point at Hart Center Arena on Thursday, Mar. 12 for the semifinals of the 2026 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.

HOLY CROSS NOTES: 
  • The Crusaders enter Thursday having won seven-straight games and 11 of their last 12.  
  • The Crusaders improved to 21-9 overall this season after defeating No. 10 Colgate in the league quarterfinals on Monday.
  • Senior forward Meg Cahalan led the way with 21 points on 9-of-14 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range, scoring 10 points in the first four minutes to spark a 13-4 opening run. She added five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
  • Senior forward Simone Foreman was a force on both ends of the floor, recording her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. She shot 4-of-7 from the field, went a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line and added an assist.
  • Senior guard Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly posted her fourth consecutive double-digit scoring performance with 11 points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. She also recorded five rebounds and four assists across 27 minutes.
  • Junior guard Kendall Eddy chipped in 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting and contributed four steals, three assists and two rebounds.
SENIOR STANDOUTS:
  • Holy Cross' senior class of Cahalan, Donnelly, Flanagan and Foreman continue to shine in their final playoff push on The Hill.
  • The seniors have collectively averaged 39.8 points per game this season.
  • Over their four year careers, Cahalan (854), Donnelly (558), Flanagan (1,024) and Foreman (893) have combined for 3,329 points. 
  • Since first suiting up on the Hill the group is 85-43 overall and 49-23 in Patriot League play.
  • On Feb. 7 at Lehigh, Flanagan eclipsed 500 career assists, becoming just the seventh player in school history to achieve the feat.
  • On Feb. 18 at Lafayette, Flanagan became the 37th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, doing so with a nine-point outing against the Leopards. She currently ranks 33rd in all-time scoring with 1,020 career points. 
  • Flanagan is only the third player in program history with 1,000+ points and 500+ assists, joining Alex Smith (2010-2014; 1,644 points, 568 assists) and Anna Kinne (1996-00; 1,234 points, 532 assists).
  • Flanagan's final major milestone of the regular season came on Feb. 28 at Loyola (Md.), where she made her 126th career start to set a new program record. She has played in 128 career games, starting all of them.
  • Foreman grabbed 13 rebounds on Monday, bringing her career total to 769 and moving her into sixth place all-time in program history, surpassing Phyllis Townsend '84 (762) and Maggie Fontana '05 (768).
SCOUTING ARMY:
  • No. 3 Army enters Thursday with a 24-6 overall record and a 14-4 mark in Patriot League play during the regular season.
  • The Black Knights defeated No. 6 Lafayette 65–57, in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament.
  • Kya Smith excelled for the Black Knights, leading all scorers with 21 points and 21 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. 
  • Monday marked Smith's second game this season with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds. She is only one of three players in the nation to record multiple 20-20 games this season.
  • The Black Knights have stifled opposing offenses all season, leading the Patriot League in points allowed (54.8), scoring margin (10.2), turnover margin (3.63) and assist to turnover ratio (1.20).
  • Army is also the conference leader in steals, averaging 8.03 per game.
  • On the boards, the Black Knights rank second in the league in combined opponent rebounds (30.2).
  • Army is coached by Katie Kuester who is in her first year at the helm.
  • With Monday's win, Kuester tied the Army program record for most wins by a first-year head coach with 24.
THE HC-ARMY SERIES:
  • Thursday marks the 79th all-time meeting between the Crusaders and Black Knights.
  • Holy Cross leads the all-time series against Army, 43-36, after the teams split this year's two regular-season contests.
  • Last time out, the Crusaders picked up a 63-48 home victory over the Black Knights thanks to a 26-point fourth quarter.
  • Donnelly led the scoring effort with 14 points, knocking down four three-pointers to go along with eight rebounds, two blocks, two assists and a steal.
  • Cahalan added 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting while posting five rebounds, and an assist.
  • Flanagan finished with 10 points on 4-of-7 from the field while dishing out six assists and bringing in two rebounds.
  • Eddy made plays on both ends of the hardwood, tallying 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting, three assists, three steals, and two rebounds.
  • Army's offense was led by Camryn Tade, who finished with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
  • Thursday matchup will mark the first time the two teams have met in the playoffs 2014 Patriot League Championship game. The Black Knights won that matchup 68-58.
DOWN THE STRETCH:
  • The Crusaders are 11-1 since picking up a road win at American on Jan. 24, 70-58. Holy Cross started that stretch with three consecutive wins and bounced back from the one loss to Lehigh (Feb. 7) with a win at Colgate (Feb. 11). They closed the regular season with six-straight wins to earn the No. 2 seed.
  • Over that stretch, the Crusaders are outscoring opponents 63.0-50.5 and have dominated the fourth quarter and overtime; outscoring the opposition 232-157.
  • Holy Cross has held its opponents to a 33.7 field-goal percentage, while shooting 42.5% in that stretch.
  • Cahalan (16.8) and Donnelly (10.6) have emerged as the primary scoring options for the Crusaders.Flanagan has averaged 8.7 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.4 rebounds over that stretch.
