Men’s basketball begins road week at Lehigh Wednesday

The Holy Cross men's basketball team starts a stretch of six of the next eight games on the road beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Lehigh with tip-off set for 6 p.m. in Stabler Arena. The contest will stream live on ESPN+

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (6-9, 1-1 PL): 
  • The Crusaders are coming off a 65-58 setback to Patriot League Preseason favorite Navy Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Arena. Sophomore guard Tyler Boston scored a team-high 16 points with six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the loss.
  • Junior guard/forward Joe Nugent has knocked down 167 three-pointers in his Holy Cross career. He needs seven more triples to climb to fourth place on the program's all-time list (173 - Andrew Beinert, 2007-11.)
  • The Crusaders ended non-conference play ranking second in the Patriot League in scoring defense (73.3), fourth in three-point percentage defense (32.6) and fourth in turnover margin (0.00).
  • Per KenPom, Holy Cross' defense ranks 21st in the country in free throw rate (26.6 percent) which is the top mark in the Patriot League.
  • Holy Cross Athletics announced on Monday, Dec. 22nd that the court in the Hart Center Arena will be dedicated and named in honor of Crusader and NBA legend Bob Cousy. A formal dedication of the Bob Cousy '50 Court will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7 prior to the game against Lehigh on Winter Homecoming Weekend.
  • Holy Cross is the eighth ranked Patriot League team in the 2026 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings (327th). They rank 310th (100.9) in offensive rating and 323rd (115.8) in defensive rating.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS (4-11, 0-2 PL): 
  • Lehigh has lost three straight games and six of their last seven contests after falling 72-65 to Bucknell on Saturday night. Hank Alvey scored a game-high 26 points going 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) from the field with nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
  • Alvey was named Patriot League Honorable Mention for his efforts last week averaging 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game shooting 70.4 percent (19-for-27) from the floor across the opening pair of league games.
  • Alvey comes in at second in the Patriot League and 14th in the nation in field goal percentage (64.2).
  • As a team, Lehigh ranks second in the conference in turnovers forced per game (13.2) and fast break points (13.1).
  • The Mountain Hawks ranks seventh out of 10 Patriot League teams in the 2026 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings (325th). They are 331st in offensive rating (98.9) and 284th (113.5) in defensive rating.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 45-33 (.577) in the series history against Lehigh which began back in 1976. The Mountain Hawks have won three straight meetings and nine of the last 11 contests dating back to the 2019-20 season.
  • In their last meeting on Feb. 15, 2025, the Mountain Hawks earned an 72-60 win at home. Then-freshman forward Aidan Richard scored 12 points with four three-pointers and three boards for Holy Cross.
