Women’s basketball faces Army on Wednesday

The Holy Cross women's basketball team will duel Patriot League opponent Army West Point on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (12-5, 5-1 PL): 
  • Holy Cross has won three straight games and moved to 9-2 (.818) over their last 11 games following a 76-44 victory on the road at American on Saturday. Four players scored in double-figures for the Crusaders including senior Lindsay Berger who matched a career-high with 22 points shooting 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from the hardwood and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the charity stripe.
  • Berger was named the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday for the first time in her career. She paced the Patriot League in scoring (19.0), field goal percentage (73.7%), blocked shots (4), blocks per game (2.0), and free throws made (10) last week.
  • Berger has been dialed in the last three games for the Crusaders averaging a team-high 18.0 points, a squad-best 7.3 rebounds per game with 1.7 blocks and 1.0 steals per game on 72.4 percent (21-of-29) shooting and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) efficiency at the line.  
  • For the week Jan. 13 to Jan. 19, Holy Cross ranked second in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense (24.0), tied for third in scoring defense (40.5) and 11th in scoring margin (+29).
  • The Crusaders' defensive unit has been locked in over their last eight contests (8-1, .889) allowing opponents to average 51.8 points per game on 33.2 percent (167-of-503) shooting and 25.7 percent (43-of-167) from three-point land. They have a +13.6 scoring margin and a +8.0 rebounding margin.
  • The Crusaders have only had their shot blocked 26 times this season which is tied with Quinnipiac for second fewest in the NCAA.
  • Over the last three seasons, Holy Cross is 33-25 (.569) on the road compared to 43-12 (.782) at home in the Hart Center Arena.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS (13-3, 5-1 PL): 
  • Army has won six of their last seven games including a comeback 59-52 win at Boston University on Saturday. The Black Knights trailed 46-38 entering the fourth quarter and outscored the Terriers 21-to-6 in the final stanza. Trinity Hardy scored a game-high 21 points with eight rebounds and steal for Army.
  • Camryn Tade was named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday. Tade averaged 15.5 points, and 8.5 rebounds on 54.5 percent (12-of-22) shooting including 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from deep last week for Army.
  • As a team, Army leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (56.0) which is 26th in the nation. They also lead the conference in assists per game (14.5).
  • Trinity Hardy is the conference leader in steals (42) and steals per game (2.6). Per Sports Reference, Hardy ranks fourth in the Patriot League in defensive rating (80.7) and seventh in usage percentage (26.6).
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • The Crusaders are 41-34 (.547) in the series history against the Black Knights which began in 1991. Holy Cross 18-20 (.474) on the road against Army.
  • In their last meeting on Feb. 17, 2024, Army upended the Crusaders 58-43. Fiona Hastick scored a game-high 24 points connecting on four threes for the Black Knights.
