Women’s basketball hits the road to American on Saturday

The Holy Cross women's basketball team travels to Patriot League foe American on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (11-5, 4-1 PL): 
  • Holy Cross moved to 8-2 (.800) over their last 10 games following a 63-37 win at home against Bucknell. Junior guard Kaitlyn Flanagan scored a game-high 19 points with six assists and zero turnovers while senior forward Lindsay Berger manufactured 16 points for the second consecutive contest.
  • Flanagan has posted zero turnovers in back-to-back games for the first time in her career. Her last turnover was on Jan. 8 at Navy at the 4:52 mark in the first quarter. Flanagan has 11 games in her collegiate career with zero turnovers and the Crusaders are 11-0 (1.000) in those games.
  • The Crusaders' defensive unit has been locked in over their last eight contests (7-1, .875) allowing opponents to average 52.8 points per game on 34.4 percent (156-of-454) shooting and 25.7 percent (39-of-152) from three-point land. They have a +11.3 scoring margin and a +7.5 rebounding margin.
  • Holy Cross is one of the most disciplined teams in the NCAA as they rank 11th in the nation in fouls per game (13.1) which is second in the Patriot League.
  • The Crusaders have only had their shot blocked 26 times this season which is tied with TCU and Quinnipiac for third fewest in the NCAA.
  • Over the last three seasons, Holy Cross is 32-25 (.561) on the road compared to 43-12 (.782) at home in the Hart Center Arena.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES (0-16, 0-5 PL): 
  • American is winless in 2024-25 and has lost 23 of their last 24 games dating back to last season. They are coming off a 77-38 setback to Loyola (Md.) in a nationally broadcast game on CBS Sports Network. Cecilia Kay had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
  • Kay was named the Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week the league offices announced Monday. She averaged 19.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game last week for the Eagles.
  • During league play, Kay ranks tied for first in rebounding (11.4) and is first in blocks (12) and blocks per game (2.4).
  • American has one of the top perimeter defenses in the Patriot League as they are 3rd in the conference in three-point percentage defense (26.9 percent), however, they rank 343rd out of 353 programs in the NCAA in field goal percentage (34.8%).
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • The Crusaders are 28-23 (.549) in the series history against the Eagles which began in 2000. Holy Cross 11-14 (.444) on the road against American.
  • In their last meeting on Jan. 5, 2025, Holy Cross earned a 69-61 win at home. Two players scored 20+ points as Simone Foreman double-doubled with 22 points and 10 boards while Meg Cahalan had 21 points and four threes. Kaitlyn Flanagan double-doubled with 13 points and 10 assists.
