LEWISBURG, Pa. — Holy Cross women's golf team opened its season at the Bucknell Invitational held at the Bucknell Golf Course. The team finished 6th place overall with play concluding on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Freshman Sophie Quinones was Holy Cross's top finisher coming in 14th place in her collegiate debut. She fired an 80 in the first round and 76 in the second round on the first two days of action. Her final round was the lowest of the day, tied for the lowest of the tournament, and the lowest in Crusader history.

"At the Bucknell Invitational, 231 rounds of golf were completed by student-athletes. The fact that Sophie Quinones tied with one other player for the low round (69) of the tournament is impressive to say the least," director of golf Steve Napoli. "The fact that she did so as a freshman and in her third round as a collegiate golfer adds to her achievement and bodes well for the future.  I'm thrilled for Sophia as are her teammates.

After three rounds of the 54-hole course, the Crusaders finished with a score of 936 (+96) as a team.

• "This was a solid team effort with everyone in our lineup contributing to our team score," said Napoli. "Our veteran players returned to Holy Cross this fall and through their hard work during the summer months, are much improved players of the game. Freshman Sophie Quinones fired a final round 69 (one under par) which is the lowest score recorded by a Holy Cross golfer in school history by three strokes."

• The Crusaders return to action from Sept. 23 through 24 for the Red Bandanna Invitational hosted by Boston College in Canton, Mass. at the Blue Hill Country Club.
