Women’s basketball faces Boston University in Turnpike Trophy contest

The Holy Cross women's basketball team wraps up the road portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday, March 2 against Patriot League opponent Boston University with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (16-11, 10-6 PL): 
  • Holy Cross dropped an 86-79 decision to league opponent Colgate Wednesday evening. Senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a career-high 33 points going a perfect 8-of-8 (100 percent) at the line.
  • Power-Cassidy was named the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. Power-Cassidy averaged a conference best 21.5 points with 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks over 38.5 minutes per game in a 2-0 week for the first place Crusaders. She shot 45.2% (14-of-31) from the field and 80% (8-of-10) from the line.
  • With a win against the Terriers, the Crusaders can clinch at least a share of the 2023-24 Patriot League Regular-Season Championship. Holy Cross has captured 11 outright regular-season titles and a share of the conference title once.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS (17-10, 9-7 PL): 
  • BU has won four of their last five games including an 89-78 win at home against Lehigh. Five players reached double-figures for the Terriers including Alex Giannaros who scored game-high 22 points and Aoibhe Gormley's career-high 21 points in 24 minutes off the bench.
  • During their 4-1 stretch, the Terriers are converting shots at a 48.3 percent (125-of-259) clip and 38.2 percent (42-of-110) three-point efficiency. BU however is losing the turnover margin (-2.8) and the rebound margin (-4.8) during that span.
  • Caitlin Weimar is one of the top athletes in the Patriot League. She leads the conference in scoring (18.2), rebounding (10.5), field goal percentage (55.2 percent), and blocks (2.8).
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 23-14 (.622) in the series against BU which began in 1975.
    In their last meeting on Jan. 29, the Crusaders earned a nationally-televised 61-50 win in the Hart Center. Senior Cara McCormack scored a game-high 18 points with six assists and three three-pointers during the victory.
