Women’s basketball opens season at home against Quinnipiac

The Holy Cross women's basketball team ushers in a new era on Monday, Nov. 4 when they host nonconference opponent Quinnipiac at 6 p.m. in the Hart Center Arena. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (0-0, 0-0 PL): 
  • The Crusaders (21-13, 11-7 PL in 2023-24) last played in a sold out Carver-Hawkeye Arena and fell to no. 1 seeded and no. 2 nationally-ranked Iowa 91-65 in a contest seen by 3.2 million viewers on ABC. Senior Lindsay Berger scored four points to go with six rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes off the bench.
  • Candice Green, an assistant coach for the Crusaders last season takes over as Interim Head Coach for the 2024-25 campaign. Green has head coach experience as the interim head coach of Fordham in 2022-23 guiding the Rams to a 19-13 mark and an appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). 
  • Holy Cross lost four key contributors, two-time Patriot League Championship MVP Bronagh Power-Cassidy (graduate transfer to Villanova), two-time Patriot League third team selection Janelle Allen (graduated), 2023-24 Patriot League third team choice Cara McCormack (graduate transfer to Drexel) and Callie Wright (graduate transfer to Toronto Metropolitan) were four of the five starters in the lineup over the final nine games of the season for Holy Cross. Losing so much production resulted in the Crusaders being chosen to finish sixth in the preseason poll.
  • The Crusaders last opened the season at home in 2021-22 dropping a 71-45 contest to Northeastern. Holy Cross last won season opener at home in 2018-19, a 71-61 decision over Rider. The Crusaders are 15-12 (.556) in season openers at home in program history.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS (0-0, 0-0 MAAC): 
  • Quinnipiac finished 2023-24 with a 13-18 overall mark and a 9-11 record in league play falling 70-56 in the MAAC Quarterfinals to eventual runner up Niagara.
  • The Bobcats were tied for third in the MACC Preseason Coaches' Poll tying with Niagara (132) and finishing behind reigning league champion Fairfield (169) and Siena (136).
  • Three Bobcats were named to the Preseason All-MACC Team. Anna Foley (second team) Jackie Grisdale (third team) and Karson Martin (third team) were the Quinnipiac representatives.
  • Foley started and played in all 31 games last season averaging 13.1 points, a team-highs in rebounds per game (7.1) assists per game (3.1), steals per game (1.2) and blocks per game (1.1).
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 5-2 (.714) in the series against Quinnipiac which began in 1980. The Crusaders are 3-2 (.600) against the Bobcats in the Hart Center Arena.
  • In their last meeting on Dec. 10, the Crusaders were upended 66-63 by the Bobcats. Lindsay Berger was one point and one rebound shy of a double-double while Anna Foley filled the box score with 12 markers, nine rebounds and seven assists.
