Women’s basketball announces 2025-26 captains

Flanagan, Cahalan named captains

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's basketball head coach Candice Green has announced the team's captains for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Senior Kaitlyn Flanagan will serve as a captain for the second straight year, while senior Meg Cahalan will step into the role for the first time.

"We're incredibly excited to announce Kaitlyn and Meg as our captains for the 2025–2026 season," Green said. "Together, they bring a wealth of experience and a balance of leadership styles that this team will lean on in the year ahead."

Flanagan, a guard, started all 31 games in her junior year. She led the Patriot League in assists (160, 5.2 per game) and had the most minutes of any Crusader (1,004) during the 2024-25 campaign. She averaged 9.7 points per game while also totaling 33 steals, 67 rebounds and 20 blocks.

During her time on The Hill, she has started in all 98 games she appeared in, amassing 762 points, 65 three-pointers, 167 free throws made, 232 rebounds, 408 assists, 42 blocked shots and 109 steals over 3,089 minutes of action. Over her three-year career, Flanagan has been named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team (2025-26), All-Patriot League Second Team (2024-25), Patriot League All-Rookie Team (2022-23), CSC Academic All-District Team (2023-24) and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll (2022-23, 2023-24 & 2024-25).

Green on Flanagan: "Kaitlyn is our coach and heartbeat on the floor — we go as she goes. Her leadership over the past three years has been invaluable, and I'm thrilled to see her lead our group in her senior season. Her will to win, her accountability, and her toughness are all traits we aim to instill in every player in our program."

Cahalan, a forward, has appeared in 68 games for the Crusaders, including 31 career starts. Over her three years, she scored 406 points, 48 threes, 54 free throws, 42 assists, 135 rebounds, 32 blocks and 11 steals over 1,025 minutes of play. The New Jersey native had a breakout season during the 2024-25 campaign, starting in all 31 games on the year. Cahalan led the team and was ranked sixth in the conference in blocks (26). She was second on the squad and 16th in the league in points, averaging 10.5 points per game. She also had the second-most three-pointers made (42) of any Crusader and was ranked 15th in the Patriot League for three-pointers made per game (1.4). She had a massive season-high of 25 points and three-pointers made (5) against Boston University on Feb. 8. She has made her way onto the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll all three years and was the 2025 Rev. George L. O'Brien Award recipient as MVP of the Winter Homecoming game.

Green on Cahalan: "Meg is our Glue. She's experienced just about every role on this team, and because of that, she's someone every player feels comfortable turning to. She holds herself and her teammates to a high standard and brings intelligence, resilience, and steady leadership to everything she does. I have no doubt she and Kaitlyn will guide this team in achieving all of our goals."
