HOPKINTON, N.H. – Men's and women's cross country competed at the New England Cross Country Championship held at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds on Friday, Oct. 11. The men competed against 16 other teams while the women took on 18 other schools.
Sophomore Joseph Mahon finished 7th overall crossing the finish at 24:38.90 on the eight-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished in 6th with a total of 173 points. CCSU captured the team title with 38 points, followed by Providence with 75 points and Rhode Island in third with 108 points.
Junior Liam Lyons earned a 14th-place finish with a time of 24:58.51, while senior William Schimitsch came in 21st with a time of 25:11.09. Freshmen Lewis O'Connor (84th, 26:28.06), and Robert Foster (89th, 26:33.06) to round out the Holy Cross top five runners.
Senior Abby Hughes was Holy Cross's top finisher claiming 20th place overall with a time of 18:27.82 on the five-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished in 8th with 209 total points. New Hampshire captured the team title with 70 points, followed by Rhode Island with 84 points and Providence in third with 93 points.
Freshman Sheila Purcell earned a 41st-place finish with a time of 18:57.70, while junior Abby Granrath came in 46th at 19:04.31. Senior Caroline Gage (48th, 19:06.74) and sophomore Siena Brunetti (75th, 19:31.29) round out the Holy Cross top five runners.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 when they participate in the CCSU Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
