Women’s basketball takes on Army Saturday

The Holy Cross women's basketball team continues conference play with a Patriot League bout against Army West Point on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Hart Center Arena. The contest will stream on ESPN+.   

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (7-5, 1-0 PL): 
  • The Crusaders are 5-2 over their last seven games and began league action with a 69-54 against Bucknell on Wednesday evening. Senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy dropped a game-high 21 points while senior Janelle Allen and sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
  • Holy Cross is off to their first 6-0 start at home since the 2001-02 season. The Crusaders have a +18.3 scoring margin in home contests holding opponents to 45.3 points per game on their home court. Holy Cross is 60-20 (.750) over their last 80 games in the Hart Center Arena.
  • Sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan is the conference leader in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6) she also ranks second in total assists (51) and assists per game (4.3). Fellow guard, senior Cara McCormack ranks third in the league in total assists (41) and is fifth in assists per game (3.4). Per Her Hoop Stats, the Crusaders are 28th in NCAA Division I in assisted shot rate (64.6%).
  • Holy Cross is 5-2 over their last seven games. The Crusaders have allowed only 45.9 points per game while holding opponents to 24.2 percent (30-for-124) three-point shooting while outrebounding foes by 11.6 boards per game.
  • The Crusaders are one of the top rebounding teams in the nation. Holy Cross is 11th in defensive rebounds per game (31.0) and 17th in rebounds per game (44.5). Sophomore Simone Foreman is third in the Patriot League in rebounds per game (8.8) and is 17th in the NCAA in defensive rebounds per game (7.5).
SCOUTING THE BLACK NIGHTS (3-8, 0-1 PL): 
  • Army is 1-4 over their last five games and fell on their Patriot League opener at home 68-42 to Lafayette. Kya Smith was the only Black Knight to reach double figures as she finished with 10 points and seven rebounds in the setback.
  • Reese Ericson and Fiona Hastick were named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Tuesday. Ericson scored a career-high 25 points with a personal-high in three pointers (7) and season-high seven assists while Hastick had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in Army's win over Five Towns College.
  • Kya Smith, a one-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week is fourth in the conference in rebounding (7.5) and fifth in free throw percentage (73.5).
  • The Black Knights struggle shooting from long range as they rank 340 out of 348 teams in the NCAA in three-point percentage (23.2 percent).
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 40-33 in the series against Army which began in 1991. The Crusaders are 22-14 at home against the Black Knights.
  • In their last meeting on Feb. 25 2023 the Crusaders earned a 60-54 win in West Point. Kaitlyn Flanagan was one of four players in double figures as she scored a career-high 16 points.
