Connor Nelson and freshman
Patrick Ling both posted singles victories, but the Holy Cross men's tennis team was defeated by Loyola (Md.) 4-2 in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament at the J.W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts. The Greyhounds improve to 7-15 on the year and move on to face top-seed Navy in the quarterfinals, while the Crusaders finish the season at 7-13 overall.
In doubles action, junior
William Kelleher and senior
Declan O'Flynn began the day with a 6-2 win over Oliver Davey and Harry Zeiders at the No. 2 spot. But Loyola came back with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
In singles action, Ling opened up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Zeiders at No. 5. After the Greyhounds picked up a win at No. 1, Nelson downed Davey 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 to leave the match deadlocked at 2-2. But Loyola was able to pull out close matches at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots to claim the overall victory.
The 2022-2023 campaign is now complete for the Crusaders.
