Men’s tennis rallies past Sacred Heart

WORCESTER, Mass. — Freshman Camilo Illanes came from behind to win his match at No. 6 singles, lifting the Holy Cross men's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Sacred Heart at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility. The Crusaders improve to 6-10 on the season with the win, while the Pioneers fall to 7-11 overall.

In doubles action, freshman Patrick Ling and junior Connor Nelson defeated Paul Goncalves and Charlie Levinson 6-2 at the No. 3 spot, but Sacred Heart had victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 to take the doubles point.

Singles play began with the Pioneers posting wins at No. 1 and No. 3, while Holy Cross had victories at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 to leave the match deadlocked at 3-3. Illanes then rallied from a set down to defeat Sebastian Colla 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 to clinch the win for the Crusaders. 

Other singles winners for Holy Cross were Nelson at No. 2 (6-4, 6-4 over Matyas Vencl), senior Declan O'Flynn at No. 4 (7-5, 7-5 over Darius Eftekhar) and Ling at No. 5 (6-3, 6-1 over Arya Alla).

The Crusaders return to action on Friday, April 14, when they play host to Boston University at 3:30 p.m.
