Women’s basketball welcomes regular season champion BU for season finale

The Holy Cross women's basketball team hosts Patriot League regular season champion Boston University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 1 in a Turnpike Trophy contest at the Hart Center Arena. The contest will stream live through ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (20-8, 12-5 PL): 
  • The Crusaders earned a hard fought 60-54 victory Saturday afternoon against conference foe Army West Point. Four players reached double figures for Holy Cross including freshman guard Kaitlyn Flanagan who scored a career-high 16 points in the win.
  • Flanagan was named the GEICO Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon by the conference offices. Flanagan helped lead the Crusaders to a 2-0 record last week by averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 53.3% (8-of-15) from the floor, 50% (3-of-6) from deep and 88.9% (8-of-9) at the line.
  • Over the last four games, Flanagan is second on the team in scoring (10.5) while averaging 3.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals per game, and shooting 60.9% from the floor.
  • Junior guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy was named Patriot League Honorable Mention for the fifth time this season. Last week, the junior guard averaged 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game on 40.0% (10-of-25) shooting.
  • Last week the Crusaders held two of the three players in the Patriot League who average double-doubles, Lex Therien (7 points, 13 rebounds, 2-of-10 FG, three turnovers) and Sabria Hunter (3 points, 14 rebounds, 1-of-7 FG, four turnovers) to 5.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.5 turnovers per game on 17.6% (3-of-17) shooting.
  • Holy Cross has clinched a first round bye and Patriot League Quarterfinal Round home game which will be played on Monday, March 6, 2023. Fans can purchase tickets here.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS (22-6, 17-0 PL): 
  • Boston University has run through the Patriot League and picked up their 17th straight victory, a 78-65 victory at home against Lehigh on Saturday. Five players reached double digit points including Caitlin Weimar who had a monster 24 point and 15 rebound double-double.
  • Weimar was named the GEICO Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday by the conference office for the third time this season. She averaged 28.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game on 65.6% shooting. Against Army West Point last Wednesday, Weimar dropped a career-high 32 points.
  • BU is the conference leader in three-point percentage converting three-balls at a 39.5% clip which ranks third in the nation. They are also tops in the league in field goal percentage (46.1%) and that ranks 18th in the NCAA.
  • This matchup pits the top two teams in the Patriot League by RPI/Net Ratings as the Terriers are at 115 and the Crusaders are second at 182.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 20-14 (.588) in the series history against Boston University dating back to 1975.
  • In the last meeting between the two programs, the Terriers rallied from a 15 point second quarter deficit to earn a 66-59 victory in Boston. Sydney Johnson had a game-high 17 points and six rebounds for the Terriers.
  • The Crusaders are 10-6 (.625) in the Hart Center Arena against the Terriers.
