The Holy Cross women's basketball team will open their home schedule in the friendly confines of the Hart Center Arena when they take on nonconference opponent Brown on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.
The first 200 fans who enter the Hart Center Arena on Thursday evening will receive a mini championship banner commemorating the 2023 Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament Championship.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (0-1, 0-0 PL):
- The Crusaders are coming off a 66-61 loss to Boston College in their season opener on Monday. Senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a team-best 16 points with a career-high 12 rebounds in her first ever double-double effort.
- Power-Cassidy, a Preseason All-Patriot League selection filled up the box score with four three-pointers, three assists and a squad-high 2 steals at The Heights.
- Sophomore guard Simone Foreman earned her first career start and established a new personal-high with 11 rebounds to go with 10 points, her first career double-double versus the Eagles.
- Senior Janelle Allen joined her teammates in double digits with 10 points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight caroms – five on the offensive end at BC.
- Sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan dished out a game-high seven assists in the season opener. It was the 12th time in her career that she handed out four or more dimes. The Crusaders are 10-2 (.833) in those games.
- Over their last four games dating back to last year, Holy Cross made 88.4 percent (38-for-43) of their free throws.
- During the 2022-23 season, Holy Cross went 11-4 at home. The Crusaders have won 54 of their last 74 games at the Hart Center (54-20, .730).
SCOUTING THE BEARS (0-1, 0-0 IVY):
- Brown finished the 2022-23 campaign with a 11-15, 4-10 IVY mark and were projected to finish sixth out of eight teams following the release of the 2023 Ivy League Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
- Returning for Brown is All-Ivy League Honorable Mention honoree Grace Arnolie who averaged 11.7 points per game is one of 13 returning players for the Bears.
- Last season, Brown ranked 20th in the NCAA in steals per game (10.4).
- The Bears began their season with an 80-58 loss at home to FGCU on Monday. Grace Arnolie and Kyla Jones had 13 points each with Arnolie securing seven rebounds in the setback.
- Arnolie has scored in double figures over the last eight contests.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- The Crusaders are 8-2 (.800) in the series history with the Bears dating back to 1981.
- During their last meeting on Nov. 30, 2022, Holy Cross rolled to a 60-45 victory in Providence. Janelle Allen stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
