Women’s basketball continues road swing at Stonehill

The Holy Cross women's basketball team looks to snap their two game losing streak on Wednesday, Nov. 29 against nonconference opponent Stonehill with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. at Merkert Gymnasium. The contest will stream live through NEC Front Row.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (2-3, 0-0 PL): 
  • The Crusaders return to action after a week layoff and a 63-53 setback to Villanova at Finneran Pavilion last week. Senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a game-high 14 points shooting 50 percent (6-of-12) from the floor, 66.7 percent (2-for-3) from deep while recording six rebounds.
  • Power-Cassidy has scored 955 points in her collegiate career and needs 45 more to become the 36th member of the program's 1,000 point club. She also has converted 125 three-pointers and needs 17 for 142, which would crack the top-10 all-time in program history.
  • Sophomore Simone Foreman (8.6) and junior Lindsay Berger (7.8) rank third and fourth in the Patriot League in rebounds per game.
  • The Crusaders rank 10th in the NCAA in defensive rebounds per game (32.2) and 21st in rebounds per game (45.6).
  • Individually, sophomore Simone Foreman is 16th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (7.6).
  • Head Coach Maureen Magarity needs one more win for 200 in her career. At Holy Cross, Magarity has gone 53-31 for a .631 winning percentage.
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS (0-7, 0-0 NEC): 
  • Stonehill finished the 2022-23 season with a 9-20, 5-11 NEC record and is off to an 0-7 start to begin 2023-24 falling to Utah Tech 81-58 on Saturday. Anna Boruta produced a team-best 14 points with three three-pointers, two rebounds and an assist.
  • The Skyhawks were projected to finish fifth in the NEC following the release of the 2023-24 women's basketball preseason poll.
  • Per Her Hoop Stats, Stonehill plays at the 45th fastest pace in the NCAA averaging 76.6 possessions per 40 minutes. They rank in the bottom 10 percent of the NCAA in opposing rebounds per game (44.7) which is 335th in the nation.
  • Stonehill's Maureen Stapleton paces the NEC in rebounding averaging 8.3 boards per contest.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross and Stonehill have met five times since 1974 with the Crusaders holding a 3-2 mark against the Skyhawks.
  • In their last meeting on Dec. 8, 2022, the Crusaders rallied from a nine point deficit to defeat the Skyhawks 74-62 in the Hart Center Arena. Five players scored in double-figures for Holy Cross including Janelle Allen who dropped 16 points with four boards and three assists.
