Women’s basketball welcomes Bucknell to campus Saturday

The Holy Cross women's basketball team returns home to the Hart Center Arena on Saturday afternoon to square off against Patriot League foe Bucknell at 2 p.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (15-3, 7-0 PL):
  • Holy Cross won their seventh straight contest rallying from an eight point first quarter deficit to defeat Colgate 59-49 Wednesday morning. Junior Bronagh Power-Cassidy paced all players with a game-high 19 points while sophomore Lindsay Berger recorded her third career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Junior Cara McCormack (5'3) recorded her fourth career block at Colgate. She is the second shortest player in the NCAA (Vannessa Garrelts, 5'4, Canisius), (Regina Walton, 5'3, Elon), (Nevaeh Tot, 5'2, Oklahoma) to record a block this season.
  • Holy Cross has won seven consecutive games for the 18th time in program history and the first time since the 2004-05 season when the squad won 10 straight contests. The seven game win streak is currently the longest winning streak in the Maureen Magarity era.
  • During the seven game winning stretch, the Crusaders have averaged 60.1 points per game and opponents score 48.4 points per game for a +11.7 point margin. The Holy Cross post presence has been key on the defensive end during that stretch as they have averaged 4.4 blocks per contest while opponents have 1.4 blocks per game.
  • Power-Cassidy has had the three-point stroke working during the Crusader winning streak. She's converted 16-of-32 (50.0%) attempts. Holy Cross is 11-0 when Power-Cassidy scores in double figures and 4-3 when she does not.
  • Holy Cross became the first NCAA Division I program in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to win 15 games. Massachusetts (14-4), and Boston College (13-8) trail the Crusaders in wins.
  • The Crusaders have started 7-0 in league play four times most recently in 2004-05 (10-0). The best start in conference play is 12-0 during 1996-97.
SCOUTING THE BISON (6-12, 2-5 PL):
  • Bucknell is looking to avoid a three game losing streak after dropping a 52-43 decision to Army on Wednesday evening at home. Emma Shaffer had a monster performance in the setback scoring 15 points and coming down with 15 boards on 50% shooting (7-of-14).
  • Sophomore Cecelia Collins, a 2022-23 Patriot League Women's Basketball Preseason All-Patriot League Team selection has been out of the lineup since the Jan. 5 game at Lehigh. Collins is the Bison leader in scoring (13.3), minutes per game (34.8), assists per game (3.2), and steals per game (0.8). Bucknell has gone 2-3 in the five games without her.
  • The Bison are last in the Patriot League in three-pointers made (70), assists per game (9.9), and second to last in scoring offense (53.3), combined team rebounds per game (32.7) and steals per game (3.6).
  • Over the last 10 seasons, the Bison have compiled a 207-87 (.704) record, however this season they are 6-12 (.333) over their first 18 games.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Holy Cross is 48-26 (.649) in the series history against Bucknell dating back to 1991.
  • This season, the Crusader won the first meeting back on Dec. 30, 2022 62-45 in Lewisburg, Pa. Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored 15 points while Cecelia Collins chipped in 16 markers.
