Women’s basketball heads to Colgate on six game winning streak

The Holy Cross women's basketball team travels to Patriot League foe Colgate looking for their seventh straight victory on Wednesday, January 18 at 11:00 a.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (14-3, 6-0 PL): 
  • Holy Cross handled conference opponent Lafayette 66-50 on Saturday afternoon picking up their sixth straight victory. Five players scored eight or more points for the Crusaders including sophomore Callie Wright who dropped a career-high eight markers on a perfect shooting performance (2-for-2 FG, 4-for-4 FT).
  • Holy Cross has won six consecutive games for the 27th time in program history and the first time since 2013. It is currently the longest winning streak in the Maureen Magarity era.
  • During the six game winning streak, the Crusaders have averaged 60.3 points per game and opponents score 48.3 points per game for a +12.0 point margin. The Holy Cross post presence has been key on the defensive end during that stretch as they have averaged 4.0 blocks per contest while opponents have 1.2 blocks per game.
  • Junior Bronagh Power-Cassidy has had the three-point stroke working during the Crusader winning streak. She's converted 15-of-30 (50.0%) attempts and is averaging 2.5 threes per contest in Patriot League games which leads the conference.
  • This matchup will feature two of the defenses in the Patriot League. Holy Cross paces the conference in scoring defense (52.5) which ranks ninth in the NCAA. In Patriot League games, that number dips to 48.3 points per game.
  • The Crusaders have started 6-0 in league play six times most recently in 2004-05.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS (10-7, 4-2 PL): 
  • Colgate needed overtime to defeat Bucknell 64-57 on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders rallied from a 12 point fourth quarter deficit to earn the victory. Morgan McMahon scored 24 points in 31 minutes off the bench for Colgate going 7-of-14 (50%) from the floor and 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the stripe.
  • McMahon was named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday. She scored double figures twice for the Raiders and was key in Colgate's first win against Bucknell since 2014-15. McMahon averaged 18.5 points, and 3.0 rebounds shooting 43.0% from the floor, 50.0% from three-point range, and 90.0% from the free throw line.
  • McMahon ranks second in the Patriot League in free throw percentage (81.4%) while teammate Alexa Brodie is second in assist/turnover ratio (2.1).
  • Colgate ranks behind Holy Cross in scoring defense allowing only 55.9 points per game which is second in the Patriot League and 25th in the nation. In conference contests, Colgate ranks fourth at 55.8 points per game. The Raiders have the top three-point defense in the league as teams shoot only 25.4% from distance which is 15th in the NCAA.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 60-10 (.857) in the series history against Colgate dating back to 1991.
  • The Crusaders are 7-3 (.700) over their last 10 meeting versus the Raiders including a 62-55 decision back on February 23, 2022. Janelle Allen scored 17 points with eight rebounds in the win for Holy Cross while Morgan McMahon dropped 21 points for Colgate.
  • The Crusaders are 26-7 (.788) on the road versus the Raiders.
