TROY, N.Y. — The Holy Cross men's tennis team turned in a strong showing to open up the season in the Siena Invitational at the Sharp Courts. Senior
Declan O'Flynn led the way with a runner-up finish in the B singles flight.
O'Flynn opened the weekend by defeating Tasmay Shah of RPI 8-7 (7-4) and Jake Grimes or Rider 8-5 to advance to the semifinals. He then posted a 6-2, 1-6, (10-7) win over Paolo Flores of Marist in his semifinal match. In the championship match, O'Flynn was edged by Abraham Yohannes of RPI 6-4, 7-5.
In the flight C singles bracket, sophomore
Jeremy Clark picked up a pair of victories, defeating Lucas Hornung of Long Island 8-7 (7-5) and Tuna Nergizoglu of Long Island 8-5. In the semifinals, Clark was edged by Arthur Voiseux of Long Island 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), (11-9).
In doubles action, the Crusaders had wins in the flight B bracket (O'Flynn and junior
Connor Nelson defeating Marist's Flores and Carlos Vasquez 6-0) and the flight C bracket (freshman
Alessandro Bizzarri and freshman
Patrick Ling downing RPI's Phoenix Tamaoki and Pranav Varanasi 6-3).
Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16, when it travels to Babson for a 3:00 p.m. match.
