WORCESTER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Holy Cross women's basketball senior
Avery LaBarbera has been named the GEICO Patriot League Player of the Week for competition from Jan. 31- Feb. 6 the league office announced Monday afternoon.
LaBarbera carried the Crusaders to a 2-0 mark this past week averaging a double-double, 22.5 points, and 10.0 rebounds to go with 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. LaBarbera shot 43.6% from the floor across 38.1 minutes per game. In the win at Lafayette, LaBarbera scored a game-high 22 points, snared 10 rebounds, and handed out six assists. At home versus Army, LaBarbera double-doubled for the 14th time this season dropping a contest-best 23 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out five assists.
This season, LaBarbera leads Holy Cross in scoring (15.8), rebounding (9.8), assists (4.0), and steals (1.5) per game. Her defensive rebounds per game mark (8.5) is third in the NCAA while her 14 total double-doubles rank 10th.
In Patriot League contests, LaBarbera is the top rebounder (12.2) and free throw shooter (85.4%) in the league, while ranking second in assists per game (4.5) and third in scoring (18.1) across 11 conference contests. LaBarbera joins Jennifer Coleman of Navy as three-time top player honorees this season.
Holy Cross (15-7, 9-2 PL) continues league action Wednesday taking on Loyola (Md.) (4-17, 1-10 PL) in Baltimore with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
