Women’s basketball set to duel BU for first place in the conference

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team ships off to Boston in a showdown for first place in the Patriot League against Boston University Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. The contest will stream on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (16-8, 10-3 PL): 
  • The Crusaders are hoping to rebound after suffering a 66-49 defeat to league opponent Bucknell Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center. Holy Cross was down by as many as 30 points in the game and shot a season-low 28.3% (17-for-60). Sophomore Cara McCormack dropped a team-high 11 points while senior Oluchi Ezemma corralled a contest-best 14 rebounds in the defeat.
  • Holy Cross and BU are tied for first place in the Patriot League with identical 10-3 conference marks. Lehigh trails both programs in third place at 9-3 with American in fourth at 8-4.
  • The women's program closes out games when leading at halftime. They are 12-1 this season when ahead at the intermission compared to 4-7 when trailing.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS (14-10, 10-3 PL): 
  • BU has lost two of their last three games including a 70-57 loss to American in D.C. on Saturday. Three players scored in double-digits for the Terriers including Caitlin Weimar who double-doubled with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Weimar was selected to the weekly honor roll after averaging a double-double this past week with 13.0 points and 12.0 rebounds shooting 73.3% from the hardwood in the 1-1 week for the Terriers. Sydney Johnson (1/31) was a one-time player of the week while newcomer Alex Giannaros (1/3) was a one-time rookie of the week this season for BU.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross holds a 19-12 advantage in the series between the two programs which began back in 1975.
  • In the last meeting between the two programs on February 21, 2021, the Crusaders earned a 60-52 win at Case Gym. Then-junior Avery LaBarbera went off for 26 points to go with seven rebounds while three players reached double-figures for BU.
