PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The Holy Cross men's track and field team placed third out of eight competing squads at the Alden Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3 to begin the indoor season.
 
The Crusaders opened their indoor season with 61 points.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Christopher Barone took sixth in the 60m dash finals with a personal record mark of 7.05, a New England Qualifying time. 
• Sophomore Brian Fennelly finished second in the 60m hurdles final with a personal best (8.38). Sophomore Josh Exantus, also competed in the final after running a personal best 8.68 in the prelims. Fennelly qualfied for the New England Championships.
• Senior Sean Flaherty took fifth in the 500m (1:07.10). Flaherty clinched a New England Qualifying mark with his personal best.
• Jack Welch, a senior, clinched first place in the 1000m with a time of 2:31.38. Freshman Liam Lyons claimed second (2:32.95). Junior Rigoberto Alfonso finished at 2:34.83, clinching fourth. These times served as a personal best for all three runners.
• Mike Mazzocca marked 1.97m in the high jump finals, good for sixth place and a New England Qualifying mark.

NEXT UP:

• Holy Cross will send select competitors to the Rhode Island Heptathlon on Dec. 8-9. The team will then compete at the Massachusetts Winter Opener on Jan. 15 in Amherst, Mass.
