HOW HE GOT HERE:
- Lyons's qualifying time of 3:40.18 in the 1500m run came at the MIT Final Qualifier on May 15. Lyons won the event and broke his own school record, shaving off three seconds from his previous time of 3:43.98, which he set at the beginning of the 2025 outdoor season.
- Additionally, Lyons has broken school records eight times over the course 2024-25 indoor and outdoor seasons. He currently holds six school records, all of which were broken this year, in the 1000m (2:21.16), the indoor mile (4:00.38), the indoor DMR (9:55.16), the outdoor 800m (1:49.33), the outdoor 1500m (3:40.18, NCAA Qualifier) and the outdoor mile (3:59.75).
- Out of the 18 races he has competed in, Lyons has placed in the top three in all but four during the 2024-25 indoor and outdoor seasons.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
- Lyons is one of three men's track and field athletes to qualify for the NCAA East Regionals in the last quarter-century. He joins Gabe Piepergerdes, who raced in the 400m hurdles in 2021, and Nathaniel Couture, who competed in the javelin in 2006 and 2007.
- This selection marks Lyons' first time qualifying for the meet.
