The Holy Cross men's basketball team will begin the 2022-2023 campaign when plays host to Siena at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7. The contest between the Crusaders and the Saints will be shown live by the Patriot League on ESPN+.
The Crusaders are entering their fourth year under head coach
Brett Nelson, and are coming off a 2021-2022 season in which they went 9-22 overall and placed seventh in the Patriot League with a 7-11 mark in conference games. Senior forward
Gerrale Gates looks to lead the team this winter, after being named second team All-Patriot League a year ago. Gates led the team with averages of 16.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while making 75.2 percent of his foul shots and posting 14 double-doubles.Â
Several other key players from last year's team are back, including junior guard
Bo Montgomery (8.5 points, 2.8 rebounds per game), sophomore forward
Caleb Kenney (4.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 0.9 blocks per contest), junior forward
Louth-M Coulibaly (3.2 points, 4.4 rebounds per game) and junior guard
Nolan Dorsey (2.6 points, 1.6 rebounds per contest).
Siena is coming off a 2021-2022 season in which it went 15-14 overall and finished third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a 12-8 record. The Saints will be led by senior forward Jackson Stormo, who averaged 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season while hitting 53.6 percent of his field goal attempts. Sophomore guard Jared Billups is also back after putting up 5.7 points and 5.0 rebounds a year ago.Â
After the contest with Siena, Holy Cross will remain at home to face Dean on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:00 p.m.
