Women’s basketball heads to Brown for a midweek battle

The Holy Cross women's basketball team is halfway through their four game road trip and the road swing will continue on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at nonconference foe Brown with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. The contest will stream live through ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (4-2, 0-0 PL): 
  • The Crusaders are coming off a 68-55 victory at Dartmouth on Sunday. Three student-athletes scored in double-figures including sophomore Lindsay Berger who recorded her second double-double of the season scoring 15 points and securing a game-high 12 boards in the win.
  • Berger was named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday for the second straight week. She averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 54.2% (13-for-24) from the floor last week for Holy Cross.
  • Berger has reached double-digits in four straight contests helping lead the Crusaders to a 3-1 mark in those games. She is averaging 15.5 points, and 10.3 rebounds per game shooting 55.8% (24-of-43) from the floor over the four game stretch.
  • Freshman Kaitlyn Flanagan is averaging 3.3 assists per game as the starting point guard for Holy Cross which ranks fourth in the Patriot League. Flanagan has recorded four or more assists three times this season.
  • Early in 2022-23, the Crusaders lead the conference and rank 28th in the NCAA in scoring defense allowing only 53.2 points per game.
  • Since head coach Maureen Magarity arrived on The Hill, Holy Cross is 29-4 (.879) when holding opponents under 60 points in a game. When leading at halftime, Magarity's teams are 25-3 (.893).
SCOUTING THE BEARS (5-2, 0-0 IVY): 
  • After starting the year 0-2, Brown has reeled off five straight victories including a 69-46 win on Monday at Central Connecticut. Kyla Jones paced all players with 17 points to go with five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Grace Arnolie stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Bears.
  • Jones has been one of the top offensive players in the entire NCAA. Jones ranks ninth in Division I in field goal conversions (56), 24th in points (136), 25th in field goal attempts (109), and 30th in points per game (19.4).
  • For the second straight week, Grace Arnolie was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week the league announced Monday. In the one-point win over Monmouth last Friday, Arnolie carried the Bears with a career-high 23 points and drilled the game-winning free throw with 0.8 seconds to go.
  • Through seven games this season, Brown is only one win away from matching their entire total from the 2021-22 season (6). They entered the year ranking eighth (26 points) of eight teams in the 2022-23 Ivy League Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.
  • So far this season, Brown ranks 35th in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense (34.6%), 71st in scoring defense (58.1%), 76th in steals per game (10.0) and 89th in three-point percentage defense (27.0%). All of those marks are tops in the Ivy League.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • The Crusaders are 7-2 (.778) in the series history against the Bears dating back to 1981.
  • Last year, the Bears earned a two point, 57-55 win in the Hart Center Arena. Then-sophomore Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a game-high 18 points for Holy Cross in the setback.
  • The Crusaders hold a 4-1 (.800) all-time mark on the road at Brown. Their only loss in Providence was on November 29, 2017, an, 82-78 loss.
