Field hockey set for weekend pair

The Holy Cross field hockey team will face two opponents this weekend. The Crusaders will begin with a trip to Patriot League opponent Colgate. on Oct. 14 for a matchup at Tyler's Field for a 5 p.m. game, followed by a contest on Oct. 16 against Long Island University at the Hart Turf Field at noon.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (4-8, 1-2 PL)

This past week Holy Cross downed their first Patriot League opponent of the season in American University when they faced off on Oct. 9 and won 1-0.
Junior defender Haley Davis was awarded a penalty stroke and earned the first goal of her collegiate career.
Davis was also named Patriot League Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Goaltender Brooke Ross posted her first shutout of the season after starting every game in the cage for the Crusaders.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE RAIDERS (3-11, 0-3 PL)

Most recently, Colgate defeated Stonehill 2-1 in a Tuesday matchup on Oct. 11.
Prior to the win, they played conference opponent Boston University and fell 3-2. The Crusaders also fell to the Terriers, 1-0.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE SHARKS (5-8, 2-1 NEC)

The Sharks are set for a Friday contest against Merrimack prior to meeting the Crusaders on Sunday.
Last week, LIU fell to conference opponent St. Francis who also downed the Crusaders early in the season.
