Chris Pothier named field hockey assistant coach

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross field hockey head coach Kim Cosenza has announced the addition of Chris Pothier as an assistant coach.

"Chris has already made a meaningful impact in a short amount of time, and we are thrilled to officially welcome him to the Holy Cross field hockey staff," said Cosenza of the hiring. "He has deep roots in both the Worcester community and the field hockey world and brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and high-level experience to our program. He has a genuine commitment to developing student-athletes, an innovative approach to the game, and a strong ability to build meaningful relationships within a team. His forward-thinking mindset and expertise will play a big role in elevating our program as we continue to grow and compete at a high level. It is an honor to welcome Chris as he joins us here on The Hill."

A longtime field hockey player, Pothier has competed, umpired, and coached at the highest levels of the sport in the United States. Pothier competed with the USA Men's Indoor National Team on three occasions - the 2023 Can Am Series in Toronto, Canada, the 2023 Rorhmax Invitational Tournament in Vienna, Austria, and the 2023 Indoor World Cup in Pretoria, South Africa - and served as a manager, analyst, and coach for both the indoor and outdoor USA Men's National Programs from 2014-2017. Since 2019, Pothier has been an NCAA official, officiating for multiple conferences including the Ivy League, Big 10, and America East, and was named to the group that officiated the 2022 Division I Final Four and National Championship, and the 2023 Division II Final Four and National Championship.

Pothier has also been coaching with Cape Ann Field Hockey Club for 20 years, directing the development pathways of players from U8 to U19. Additionally, Pothier managed the recruiting processes for players, managed and organized the organization's coaching staff, developed training programs, and handled logistics for travel tournaments and the club itself.

Pothier earned his degree in exercise science from the University of Southern Maine in 2010. He currently resides in Shrewsbury, Mass. with his wife and three sons.
