WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior guard
Avery LaBarbera has been selected as the GEICO Patriot League Player of the Week in women's basketball for competition from Jan. 3-9 the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is the first time this season LaBarbera has received top player honors.
In the lone contest for Holy Cross last week, LaBarbera scored a career-high matching 30 points and snared a personal-best 17 rebounds in Crusaders' 64-53 win Saturday versus Lehigh. LaBarbera shot 45.4% (10-for-22) from the floor, 40.0% (4-of-10) from deep, and was an unblemished 6-for-6 at the charity stripe. She dished out three assists and came away with two steals in her fourth straight double-double effort.
LaBarbera has double-doubled in six of the last seven games leading Holy Cross to a 5-2 record in that span. She's averaged 16.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.0 steals per game during that stretch.
On the season, LaBarbera leads the team in points (14.6), rebounds (8.4), assists (3.8), and steals per game (1.8). She ranks third in the PL in assists, fourth in scoring, and sixth in rebounding.
Holy Cross (8-5, 2-0 PL) returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 12 in the nation's capital versus American with tip-off slated for 6:00 p.m.
