Piepergerdes leads men’s track and field at New England Outdoor Championship

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.— The Holy Cross men's track and field team completed competition at the New England Outdoor Championship on Saturday, May 15 at Veterans Stadium. The Crusaders placed eighth out of 29 schools, with 22 team points.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Gabe Piepergerdes continued his dominance in the 400 meter hurdles, posting a first-place finish in a time of 52.14. Piepergerdes is the first men's individual champion since Stephen Virgilio won the decathlon in 2004.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Will Hornyak, John Gnibus, Jack Welch and Sean Flaherty placed sixth in a time of 3:24.34.
  • Michael Pichay placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 14.82 meters.

  • Gabe Piepergerdes currently sits at 33rd on the NCAA East Preliminary Qualifying List with the top-48 competitors earning an invitation to the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 26-29.
