The Holy Cross men's basketball team will be back in action for the first time in almost two weeks when it plays host to Navy in its Patriot League opener on Saturday, Jan. 1, at 2:00 p.m. The game between the Crusaders and the Midshipmen will be shown live by the Patriot League on ESPN+.
Holy Cross enters the game with an overall record of 2-10 on the year. The Crusaders are coming off a 62-54 setback at Harvard on Dec. 19 and will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak. Holy Cross currently leads the Patriot League in blocked shots (3.8 blocks per game), while standing third in three-point field goal percentage (35.9 percent) and fourth in steals (7.1 steals per game).
Freshman guard
Kyrell Luc has led the Crusaders by averaging 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while hitting 43.8 percent (14 of 32) of his attempts from three-point range. Sophomore guard
Judson Martindale has also been playing well, with averages of 11.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest. In addition, senior forward
Gerrale Gates has averaged 11.3 points and 7.7 boards per game.
Navy currently has an overall record of 7-4on the season. The Midshipmen have dropped two of their last three games, but were defeated by Towson 69-52 in their last outing on Dec. 22. Senior guard John Carter has led the team by averaging 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game, while making 39.7 percent (25 of 3631) of his three-pointers. Senior guard Greg Summers has put up 9.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest, with junior forward Tyler Nelson adding 7.5 points and 5.2 boards per game.
After the contest with Navy, Holy Cross will travel to Loyola (Md.) for a 7:00 p.m. game on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
