The Holy Cross men's basketball team hits the road this weekend when it travels to Colgate for pair of games. The Crusaders and the Raiders will meet at Cotterell Court on both Saturday, Jan. 16, and Sunday, Jan. 17, at 1:00 p.m. Both contests will be shown live by the Patriot League on ESPN+.
The Crusaders stand 2-2 overall this year and are coming off a 70-61 victory over Army West Point on Sunday. Senior guard
Austin Butler has led the team by averaging 17.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, while ranking second in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (63.2 percent). Junior forward
Gerrale Gates has added 15.8 points and 7.8 boards per contest, while senior forward
Matt Faw is chipping in with 12.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game.
Colgate enters the week at 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Raiders swept a pair of games from Patriot League preseason favorite Boston University last weekend. Senior guard Jordan Burns has led Colgate by averaging 20.5 points, 5.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game, while hitting 48.0 percent of his shots from three-point range. Junior guard Nelly Cummings has put up 14.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest, with junior forward Tucker Richardson contributing 11.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 boards per game.
Three-pointers should be key this weekend, with both teams shooting the ball well from long range in their first four games. Holy Cross currently leads the Patriot League by making 39.5 percent of its attempts from three-point range, while the Raiders are tied for second at 39.2 percent. But shots could be tougher to make on both ends of the court, as the Raiders lead the conference in three-point defense (24.1 percent) with the Crusaders standing second (30.3 percent).
After the series with Colgate, Holy Cross will return home for a pair of games against Lehigh on Jan. 23 and 24.
