WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross baseball head coach
Ed Kahovec has announced that 10 freshmen have joined the program this fall:
Jack Ambrosino, Alex Bryant, Pat Casserly, Nick Fletcher, Sam Kirkpatrick, Thomas Latham, Jake McElroy, Gus Pulos, Matt Remley and
Payton Sutman.
"This year's freshman class adds significant depth on the mound and in the infield," Kahovec said. "They will have an opportunity to contribute right away and I expect them to be impact players from day one. On top of their athletic abilities, they are tremendous individuals that will be great additions to our Holy Cross community."

Jack Ambrosino | RHP | 6-0 | 195 | R/R | South Burlington, Vt. | South Burlington HS
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Played four varsity seasons for South Burlington under head coach Luke Goyette.
- Served as team captain as a junior and senior.
- Named 2020 Vermont Gatorade Player of the Year.
- 2018 Vermont All-USA Baseball Team selection.
- Earned team's Cy Young Award in 2018 and 2019.
- Three-time All-Conference selection, including first team honors in 2018 and 2019.
- Won D1 state championship with South Burlington in 2018.
- Posted a career 1.53 ERA, including a 1.26 ERA in 2019.
- Graduated summa cum laude from South Burlington and participated in National Honor Society, Peer Leadership and Key Club.
Alex Bryant | RHP | 6-4 | 205 | R/R | Lutz, Fla. | Tampa Jesuit
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Played three varsity seasons for Tampa Jesuit under head coach Miguel Menendez.
- Over career, posted a 6-2 record with a 1.41 ERA in 44.2 innings pitched, along with 59 strikeouts.
- As a senior, allowed just two hits and two runs in seven innings, striking out nine before season concluded due to COVID-19.
- Team won 2019 Class 5A state championship.
- Team started and finished the 2020 season ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation by Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball News.
Pat Casserly | INF | 6-0 | 200 | R/R | Chelmsford, Mass. | Central Catholic / Winchendon
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Played four varsity seasons at Central Catholic in Lawrence, Mass.
- Served as a team captain as a senior in 2019.
- Team won three conference championships and qualified for the Super 8 twice.
- Also played one season with Winchendon under head coach John Toffey.
- Academically, earned distinguished honors from 2016-19 and was named a Merit Scholar and to high honor roll in 2020.
Nick Fletcher | RHP | 6-2 | 210 | R/R | Cleveland, Ohio | Saint Ignatius
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Played two varsity seasons for Saint Ignatius under head coach Brad Ganor.
- Named a team captain during senior year.
- Team named OHSAA Division 1 state champions in 2019.
- Over career, posted a 7-1 record, 1.63 ERA and 35 strikeouts, including a 6-1 record with a 1.89 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 32 strikeouts as a junior.
- Named to 2019 PBR Ohio Final Four All-Tournament Team as a junior.
- Earned 2020 OHSBCA Academic All-Ohio honors.
- Academic recognition includes National Honor Society, First Honors, AP Scholar and St. Peter Claver Service Award.
Sam Kirkpatrick | INF | 5-10 | 180 | R/R | Franklin, Tenn. | Montgomery Bell Academy
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Played three varsity seasons at Montgomery Bell Academy under head coach Mike Anderson.
- Played club baseball for Rawlings SE MAD Mavericks under coach Ben Hayslip.
- With Mavericks, batted .347 in 2018 and .328 in 2019.
- Named a 2019 Perfect Game/Rawlings Preseason Underclass All-American (Southeast Region).
- Graduated in the top 10 percent of his class and earned cum laude honors.
- Served as class vice president all four years of high school.
- Member of National Spanish Honors Society and earned gold medals on the National Spanish Exam.
Thomas Latham | INF | 6-0 | 195 | R/R | Chantilly, Va. | Chantilly HS
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Played three varsity seasons of baseball at Chantilly High School under head coach Kevin Ford.
- Named All-District in 2018 and 2019.
- Team reached state quarterfinals in 2018.
- Over career, batted .320 with a .465 slugging percentage.
- In 2018, led team in average (.358), on-base percentage (.422), slugging percentage (.580) and doubles (12).
- Played club baseball with Richmond Braves, with team ranking 25th nationally by Perfect Game in 2019.
- Member of the National Honor Society.
Jake McElroy | INF | 5-10 | 180 | R/R | North Andover, Mass. | North Andover HS / Proctor Academy
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Three-sport varsity athlete at North Andover High School in football, basketball and baseball.
- Played four varsity seasons of baseball under head coach Todd Dulin, serving as team captain as a junior and senior while batting .415 over career.
- Three-time All-Merrimack Valley Conference honoree.
- Won Super 8 State Championship with North Andover as a senior after team won three straight MVC titles.
- Earned Boston Herald All-Scholastic, Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Eagle-Tribune All-Star honors as a senior.
- Named 2019 Boston Globe Will McDonough Athlete of the Year, 2019 Eagle-Tribune Max Bishop Athlete of the Year and to the Eagle-Tribune 21st Century Baseball Team.
- Four-year varsity member and quarterback of the North Andover football team, serving as captain as a senior.
- Named MVC MVP, Boston Herald All-Scholastic, Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Eagle-Tribune Offensive MVP for football as a junior and senior.
- Team won a MA Division 2 Super Bowl title and two MVC Championships.
- Four-year varsity member of the basketball team under head coach Paul Tanglis, recording 1,174 career points and serving as team captain as a junior and senior.
- Three-time All-MVC selection and named MVC MVP as a junior.
- For basketball, earned Boston Herald All-Scholastic, Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Eagle-Tribune Super Team honors as a junior and senior.

- Earned team's Alvin J. Shuchart varsity pitching award as a junior.
- Also played for St. Louis Gamers under head coach Matt Whiteside.
- Named to all-tournament teams for Perfect Game 2017 WWBA Underclass World Championship, Perfect Game WWBA 16U National Championship and Perfect Game WWBA 17U National Championship.
Matt Remley | RHP | 6-5 | 210 | R/R | North Andover, Mass. | St. John's Prep
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Played two varsity seasons of baseball at St. John's Prep under head coach Dan Letarte.
- Team was Massachusetts Super 8 runners-up in 2019.
- Posted a 3-2 record with a 1.36 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched as a junior.
- Four-year member of the varsity golf team at St. John's Prep, serving as team captain as a senior.
- In golf, named Catholic Conference individual co-champion and Catholic Conference All-Star during senior year.
- Salem News All-Star in golf as a junior and senior.
- Team finished as runner-up at Massachusetts D1 state tournament during freshman and junior year.
- Finished tied for seventh individually in the Massachusetts D1 state tournament during junior year.
Payton Sutman | RHP | 6-3 | 200 | R/R | Waterford, Conn. | Waterford HS
BEFORE HOLY CROSS:
- Three-sport athlete at Waterford High School in baseball, basketball and football.
- Played three varsity seasons of baseball under head coach Art Peluso.
- Team won 2019 Class L State Championship.
- Played three seasons of varsity basketball under head coach Bill Bassett, serving as team captain as a senior.
- Basketball team won a Division III state title in 2018 and a Division II state championship in 2019.
- Named All-Eastern Connecticut Conference honorable mention in 2019.
- Played one varsity season of football as a wide receiver for head coach John Strecker.
- Named 2019 All-ECC first team.
- Team reached state playoffs for just the second time in school history.
