Men's basketball adds four to incoming class

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross head men's basketball coach Brett Nelson has announced the addition of four student-athletes to the incoming class for the Crusaders. Louth Coulibaly (Ottawa, Ontario), Randy Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.), Bo Montgomery (Memphis, Tenn.) and Malcolm Townsel (Chicago, Ill.) will join the Holy Cross program in the fall of 2020, giving the Crusaders seven total players in their incoming class. Holy Cross had previously signed DáJion "Bubba" Humphrey (Detroit, Mich.), Judson Martindale (Sudbury, Mass.) and Mike Rabinovich (Hopkinton, Mass.) in November.

"We are thrilled to have this group of seven tough, athletic and competitive young men joining our program," said Nelson. "They all have a joy for the game of basketball, love to work hard and are enthusiastic about getting better. Most importantly, they are really good people who are going to represent Holy Cross and themselves in a first-class way on the court, in the community and in the classroom."

Coulibaly is a 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward who played for head coach Tony House at the Canada Topflight Academy in Ottawa, Ontario. He averaged 13.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game during his senior season, while hitting 47 percent of his field goal attempts. Coulibaly was named a National Preparatory Association second team All-Star, while being selected to participate in the inaugural Hardwood Classix All-Star weekend in Toronto.

Nelson on Coulibaly: "Louth is a versatile forward who has a great combination of size and athleticism. He has the ability to affect the game in many different ways with his length, playmaking and rebounding ability."

Johnson is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard who played for head coach Chris Berger at the Charlotte Latin School in Charlotte, N.C. A two-time North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 4A all-state selection, he was also named second team All-Charlotte Area by the Charlotte Observer as a senior. Johnson led Charlotte Latin to a NCISAA Class 4A state runner-up finish in 2020, while scoring 36 points in the championship game. In addition, he played his AAU ball for PSB Elite.

Nelson on Johnson: "Randy is an elite competitor who has great leadership skills and decision making ability. He is a winner who can stretch the defense with his shooting ability, and is also a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands."

Montgomery is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard who played for head coach Marvis Davis at the Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tenn. He earned Division II-A All-State honors from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and second team All-Metro honors from the Memphis Commercial Appeal as a senior, after leading his team to an overall record of 28-5. Montgomery helped Lausanne to a pair of Division II-A state championships in 2017 and 2020, and was named to the all-tournament team for the state championship during his senior year. In addition, he played his AAU ball for Hoop City.

Nelson on Montgomery: "Bo comes from a winning background and has great length and versatility. He is extremely unselfish and makes everyone around him better with his passing ability."

Townsel is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard / forward who spent the last two years playing for head coach Matt Brown at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Mo. He earned second team All-Region 16 honors as a sophomore, after averaging 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, while hitting 53.2 percent of his field goal attempts. Townsel previously averaged 6.9 points as a freshman, after spending on postgraduate year at the Bosco Institute in Crown Point, Ind.
