A trio of student-athletes from the Holy Cross baseball team earned weekly honors from the Patriot League, the conference announced on Tuesday, March 10. Senior shortstop
Chris Rinaldi was named the league's Player of the Week, while freshman utilityman
Ben Dellacono took Rookie of the Week honors. Junior left-handed pitcher
Luke Dawson received his second Pitcher of the Week nod of the 2020 season.
Rinaldi batted .476 (10-for-21) in five appearances against CSU Bakersfield and UC Riverside, slugging .667 with four doubles and four RBI while also scoring six runs and stealing two bases. He had four multi-hit games during the week, including a 4-for-6 outing against CSUB on March 2 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. This is the first weekly honor Rinaldi has received from the Patriot League in his career.
Dellacono earned his first Rookie of the Week nod after hitting .385 (10-for-26) over six games, recording a team-high five doubles and driving in five runs in that span. He went 4-for-6 with three doubles, three RBIs and two runs in the Crusaders' 16-2 win over CSUB on March 2. Dellacono currently leads the Patriot League and ranks 10
th in Division I with eight doubles this season, and ranks fourth in the conference in batting average at .321.
Dawson was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for the second time in three weeks after allowing just one run in six innings pitched against UC Riverside on Friday, March 6. He struck out six batters in the appearance. Through his first four collegiate starts, Dawson has allowed just three earned runs, and ranks second in the Patriot League with a 1.11 ERA.
This is the first time that Holy Cross has swept all three Patriot League awards in one week since the Rookie of the Week award was introduced in 2002.
The Crusaders will be in action on Tuesday, March 10 at Boston College, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
