WORCESTER, Mass. – Two-time Gene Depew Patriot League Coach of the Year
Ed Kahovec is ecstatic to announce the return of Holy Cross baseball alumnus
Sean Scanlon '25 to the program as the Director of Player Development for the 2026-27 academic year.
"We are thrilled to have Sean back with our program," Kahovec said. "During his time on The Hill, Sean was a great leader, and I have no doubt that will serve him well in this new capacity. Sean was a tremendous student-athlete for our program, and he will be a huge asset to the Holy Cross community in this new role."
Scanlon, a two-time team captain (2024, 2025) and one-time Patriot League Tournament Champion (2025) is back on The Hill after a collegiate playing career as a two-way player. A two-time winner of the Hop Riopel Award (2022, 2023) given to the team MVP, Scanlon appeared in 163 games as a hitter for the Crusaders, slashing .270/.427/.435 for a .862 OPS with 15 home runs and 97 RBI. His name is all over the Holy Cross record books as the career program all-time leader in walks (114), while ranking third in career hit-by-pitches (40), third in sacrifice flies (11), fourth in doubles (43), tied for eighth in runs scored (109) and tied for 10th in home runs (15). On the mound, Scanlon's 32 games started rank tied for 10th in program history. He amassed 103.1 innings pitched with 62 strikeouts across 41 appearances in purple. Scanlon earned All-Patriot League second team honors twice (2022, 2023), was the 2025 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year and a winner of the team Ron Soucie Award given to the team Rookie of the Year (2022) and Robert T. Curran Leadership Award (2025).
"I am extremely excited to rejoin the program, this time as a coach," Scanlon said. "Holy Cross played a pivotal role in shaping who I am, and I look forward to helping develop our players and continuing our program's success. I would like to sincerely thank Coach Kahovec and Coach Tinkham for this incredible opportunity."
In 2026, Scanlon competed for Richmond as a graduate student, appearing in 48 games and making 37 starts for the Spiders. He tallied six home runs, 24 RBI and nine doubles, helping his squad to a 33-24 overall record and a 20-10 mark in A10 play.
Scanlon graduated from Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 2025 and earned his Master of Liberal Arts at Richmond in 2026.
The Crusaders concluded the 150th anniversary of baseball at the College of the Holy Cross in 2026 with a 25-30, 13-13 PL record. This was the third straight season of 25+ wins for the program, and the team became the first non service academy to capture back-to-back Patriot League Championships in Patriot League history. Holy Cross became the first No. 4 seed to win a Patriot League Tournament Championship since Bucknell in 2010.
