WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's basketball team will play its Patriot League home opener this Sunday, Jan. 5, when it faces Navy at 12:00 p.m. The contest between the Crusaders and the Greyhounds will be televised live by NESN and the Patriot League Network, and can be heard on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
The Crusaders will hold a New Year's Resolution Assistance Fair prior to the game, where fans will have the opportunity to talk to local experts in fitness, nutrition, financial services and more.
Holy Cross owns an overall record of 1-13 so far this season. The Crusaders have dropped their last six games and are coming off an 80-70 setback at Loyola (Md.) in their Patriot League opener.
Freshman forward
Joe Pridgen has led the team by averaging 17.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while hitting 57.6 percent of his field goal attempts. Freshman guard
Drew Lowder has added 14.6 points and 3.2 assists per contest, while junior guard
Austin Butler is chipping in with 10.9 points, 7.6 boards and 2.4 assists per game.
Navy stands 7-5 overall this year with a 1-0 mark in Patriot League play. The Midshipmen have won three of their last four games, including a 64-58 victory over Lehigh on Thursday.
Junior guard Cam Davis has led the team by averaging 15.6 points and 3.1 assists per game, while hitting 40.3 percent of his three-point attempts. Sophomore guard John Carter is also off to a strong start this year, with averages of 12.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. Navy is led by head coach Ed DeChellis, who stands 107-155 in nine seasons with the Midshipmen.
Following the game with Navy, Holy Cross will travel to Lafayette for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
