Women's basketball faces Boston University

The Holy Cross women's basketball team looks to continue its strong start to Patriot League play with a visit to Boston University on Saturday, Jan. 25. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

Things to Know About the Crusaders (12-6, 5-2 Patriot League):
  • Holy Cross comes off a commanding 74-57 victory at Lehigh – the team's largest margin of victory in a Patriot League game this season – on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
  • Senior Lauren Manis had a season-high 29 points, one shy of a career high, and 11 rebounds for her 50th career double-double. Senior Megan Swords contributed 16 points and a career-best 16 rebounds. Sophomore Avery LaBarbera added in 12 points.
  • As a team, the Crusaders out-rebounded Lehigh by a 45-24 margin – a season low in rebounds by a Holy Cross opponent – and shot 50.9 percent during the game.
  • At 5-2 in conference play, Holy Cross is off to its best start in the Patriot League since 2007-08.
  • Manis – the Patriot League's leading scorer at 18.3 points per game – has reached 25 or more points in four games this season.
  • Swords leads the Patriot League and ranks 35th in Division I with a field-goal percentage of 55.4 percent this season.
  • Holy Cross continues to lead the Patriot League with an average of 41.4 rebounds per game and a rebounding margin of +6.5.
  • Senior Madalyn Smith leads the conference with an average of 5.3 assists per game, which also ranks 22nd in Division I.
Things to Know About the Terriers (8-10, 3-4 Patriot League):
  • BU comes off a 46-41 loss at Navy on Wednesday. Katie Nelson led the Terriers in that contest with 15 points.
  • The Terriers have suffered back-to-back losses, falling at home against Colgate on Jan. 18.
  • Nelson has been the Terriers' leading scorer this season with an average of 14.1 points per game, which ranks fifth in the Patriot League. She averages more than 39 minutes a game, ranking second in Division I, and has played all 40 minutes in 11 contests this year.
  • Freshman Maggie Pina, the team's second-leading scorer with 10.1 points per game, is a three-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week selection.
Last Time They Met:
  • The Crusaders won all three matchups against BU in 2019, including a Patriot League quarterfinal matchup in Boston.
  • Holy Cross never trailed in the teams' first meeting in Worcester on Jan. 19, 2019, going on to win by a score of 72-65. Four Crusaders finished in double figures: LaBarbera (23 points), Manis (20 points, 11 rebounds), Swords (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Smith (12 points).
  • At BU on Feb. 16, Holy Cross held off a late push by the Terriers to earn a narrow 64-61 victory. Smith scored 12 points and made key late free throws to guide Holy Cross; Manis (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Swords (11 points, 12 rebounds) had double-doubles, and then-rookie Oluchi Ezemma finished with 10 points.
  • Then-sophomore Jenay Faulkner hit the game-winning shot with two seconds left to give Holy Cross a 72-70 victory over the Terriers on March 11. With that win, the Crusaders advanced to the Patriot League semifinal for the first time since 2013-14. Faulkner finished with 11 points, while Ezemma led the way with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Manis (20 points, seven rebounds) and LaBarbera (11 points) also reached double figures.
