WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to the University of New Hampshire, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
The contest was extremely even, with UNH holding the advantage in shots and penalty corners by one, 12-11 and 6-5 respectively.
The Wildcats took the lead in the first quarter off a penalty corner and then doubled their advantage in the second in a similar situation. The Crusaders got on the board in the third when Madeline Alderfer sent a centering pass towards the goal where Olivia Venezia redirected it in.
Holy Cross pulled Marcia LaPlante out of goal with less than two minutes to play to add another offensive player, but UNH was up to the task and sealed the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- LaPlante made eight saves on the day, another strong outing for her.
- Venezia's goal is her first of the year.
- Alderfer's assist gives her three on the week along with five points.
