Women's cross country wins UMass Dartmouth Invite

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's cross country team earned its second team victory of the season at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The Crusaders finished with 83 points to lead the 37-team field. Holy Cross has now finished in the top three of each of its meets during the 2019 season.

Finishing with the top four runners in the sub-varsity race, the Crusaders additionally earned a team victory in the JV race with 16 points to lead the 16 teams racing.

VARSITY RESULTS:

  • Sophomore Sophia Maynard led the Crusaders in the varsity race, placing 14th in a five-kilometer time of 18:58.30.
  • Junior Gabrielle Gioia finished 16th in a time of 18:59.95.
  • Senior Allie Christian ran the course in 19:04.71 to place 17th.
  • Junior Caitlin Tzimorotas was 18th in a time of 19:07.74.
  • Sophomore Emily Koufos rounded out the scoring for the Crusaders, placing 23rd with a 5K time of 19:16.15.
  • Sophomore Katie Cass placed 35th while running a time of 19:33.45.
  • Freshman Bella Corsini ran a time of 19:34.09 to place 37th.
  • Sophomore Jackie Harrington finished in 48th place with a time of 19:52.87.

JV RESULTS:

  • The Crusaders had all seven of their competitors in the sub-varsity race place inside the top nine, led by junior Alyson Walsh, who won the race in a time of 19:12.51.
  • Junior Sophia Haywood was close behind, running the course in 19:12.80 to place second.
  • Junior Mackenzie Jordan was third in a time of 19:22.89.
  • Sophomore Grace Hoelscher finished in fourth place, running a time of 19:31.18.
  • Junior Cricket Richter was sixth, crossing the finish line in 19:52.92.
  • Senior Charlotte Kurzweil placed eighth in a time of 20:16.08.
  • Senior Deana Pileika finished in 20:27.75, placing ninth.

  • Holy Cross will next compete at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 5.
