WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell at home to Colgate, 13-10, on Saturday. The Crusaders saw 11 saves from Juliana Kubler, marking a career-high for the junior, and three multi-goal games from Keely Connors, Jolie Creo, and Izzy Grant, but it was not enough to hold off the Raiders.
Holy Cross (3-6, 1-1 PL) found the back of the net first, as Creo scored at 24:09 with an unassisted tally. Starting at 22:28 and ending at 16:56, Colgate (3-6, 1-1 PL) recorded a four-goal run to take a 4-1 lead before the Crusaders were able to get on the board again. Catherine Guanci extended her goal-streak to five games with a free-position goal at 12:11.
The Raiders closed the first half scoring at 9:92, with a 5-2 lead. Julian Kubler made seven saves in the opening 30 minutes of action and Colgate's goalkeeper Samantha Croston also made seven saves.
Colgate opened the second half with a three-goal run, scoring at 28:16, 26:49, and 25:51 to take its largest lead of the game, 8-2. The Crusaders finally responded at 25:12 as Audrey Mandaro scored her fifth of the season. The Raiders responded at 23:29, but Holy Cross strung together three goals. Bryn Carroll scored on a free position goal at 22:52, followed by consecutive Izzy Grant goals at 12:47 and 16:24 (9-6).
The Raiders added two of their own to hold an 11-6 lead with 9:18 to play. Keely Connors then found the cage at 8:37 on a free-position goal. Creo added her second with an assist from Molly Pfaff at 6:05. At 5:27, Connors tallied her second goal and Maggie Moriarty scored with 1:33 to play. To close the game, the Crusaders outscored the Raiders, 3-2, but were unable to erase the first-half deficit.
