WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team shut out Robert Morris, 2-0, to finish the series with the Colonials. It is the second time in the 2018-19 season that the Crusaders have shutout the Colonials. Tommy Nixon posted a 32-save shutout for the first time in his career. Holy Cross improves to 8-18-4 and 8-13-4 in league play while Robert Morris drops to 10-19-1 and 9-14-1 in Atlantic Hockey.
Holy Cross and Robert Morris skated to a scoreless first period. The Colonials outshot the Crusaders, 11-8. Tommy Nixon recorded his fourth start of the season and turned aside all 11 shots in the first 20 minutes.
The Crusaders broke through in the second period. Michael Laffin scored on a neutral zone regroup to tally his team-leading ninth goal of the season. The Crusaders outshot Robert Morris, 10-8.
The Crusaders maintained their 1-0 lead throughout the entire third period. In the last minute Robert Morris pulled their goalie and Anthony Vincent was able to capitalize, scoring the final goal for the Crusaders, making the final score 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
1-0 HC (2nd – 16:12, EV): Spencer Trapp collected the puck in the defensive zone and triggered the neutral zone regroup. As Trapp moved the puck across the blue line, Dalton Skelly found a lane to a breaking Michael Laffin at the far blue line. Laffin skated in uncontested and shot for his ninth of the season.
2-0 HC (3rd): After a broken up play in the neutral zone, Anthony Vincent picked up the puck and rushed towards the empty net for the score.
