Bill Riga has announced the team's leadership group for the 2026-27 season. Rising seniors
Brody Gagno will serve as the lone captain, while rising seniors
Ty Gagno and
Will Elias, and rising junior
Matt Kursonis, will serve as alternate captains.
"
Brody Gagno will be a great captain for us," said Riga. "He has spent his first three season doing everything the right way on and off the ice. He has improved as a player and has grown his voice each year, culminating in being voted captain by his teammates."
B. Gagno, a native of Langley, British Columbia, played 37 games as a junior, recording a career-high ten points on two goals and eight assists. His 45 blocked shots ranked on second on the team among returning players. Overall, Gagno brings 115 games of experience into next year's campaign.
"The support group of Ty, Will and Matt will complement the captain's leadership in a variety of different play styles and personalities," continued Riga. "We are looking forward to attacking the summer and new season under their leadership."
T. Gagno, also a native of Langley, British Columbia, has been a staple in the forward group, tallying 43 points on 13 goals and 30 assists in 103 games played. His 40 blocked shots last season led all Crusaders forwards, and he recorded 182 faceoff wins.
Elias, a native of Weston, Mass., appeared in all 38 games last season, recording a career-high 18 points on two goals and 16 assists. The team's Most Improved award winner last season, Elias has suited up for 70 games over the past two seasons after playing in just one his freshman season.
Kursonis, a native of West Boylston, Mass., enters his junior season with 46 points on 16 goals and 30 assists in 57 career games played. Winning 198 faceoffs last season, Kursonis enters his third season at Holy Cross with a career .518 win percentage.
The Crusaders are coming off a 2025-2026 campaign in which it went 18-18-2 overall, placing fourth in Atlantic Hockey with 45 points (14-10-2 record), and advanced to the Atlantic Hockey Tournament semifinals for the fourth-straight season.
