WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to American, 3-2, Friday evening. The Crusaders fall to 5-6 on the year and 2-2 in Patriot League play as the Eagles improve to 7-4 and 3-0.
American struck first in just the fifth minute when Noor Coenen got one to go off a corner. But the Crusaders would answer by scoring twice in the second quarter to take the lead. First, Caitlin Little got on the end of a shot by Emily Devine to redirect it into the goal. Then, Megan Mulherin gave Holy Cross the lead when she collected a rebound and drove it home. The Eagles would score at the end of the second to tie the game at two going into the half.
Neither side was able to get on the board in the third, but in the 51st minute Charllene Boshoff scored the game-winner for the Eagles, again off a corner.
The Crusaders earned a penalty corner with just twenty seconds left in the game, but Devine's shot was saved by American's keeper to preserve the win.
